south-east patrol

On the last day , Dave and I went south , had some good luck fishing , and then headed over to Cortes Island for lunch at Gorge Harbour.
On our way over I noticed something ahead of the boat . It appeared small and blew a bit of spray . I anticipated it was a seal or a sea lion.  But oh , boy it was much more than that . It was two humpback whales , just laying quietly below the surface .  I slowed the motor and stopped the boat.  Perhaps they were sleeping ,but at any rate they made very little sign of their immense size.  We taxied a distance away before getting up to speed again.
